Operating domain

The space in which a response becomes yours.

The Interval is the small period of time in which perception, thought, selection, and conduct meet. It may last minutes or milliseconds, and its significance lies in whether a response can still be examined and chosen in that time.

01 / Sequence

From stimulus to Action

Selection is conscious.

A condition may trigger a First Movement. Within the Interval, the Second Movement offers perspective and a chance to choose one’s Action before the Selected Output is enacted. Outcomes then provide the feedback used in Integration.

Integration

A condition may produce a First Movement before deliberate judgment. Within the Interval, the Second Movement offers perspective and selection. The Selected Output is then enacted; its feedback returns information to the next sequence.

Within the Interval

Interval mechanics

First Movement

The involuntary physiological or emotional response that arrives before deliberate judgment.

Second Movement

The trained return to perspective, evaluation, and selection within the Interval.

After selection

Selected Output

The Action carried forward from the Interval into conduct.

02 / Output

Action can be outward or inward

Stillness may be selected conduct.

K

Kinetic Output

Chosen effort directed outward to alter a condition.

S

Static Output

Chosen effort used to maintain, wait, refuse, or remain still and simply observe.

Intentional stillness is not paralysis. The distinction is whether stillness was deliberately selected.

03 / Practice

Practice can compress the Interval without destroying it.

Not every skilled act requires prolonged thought. Repeatedly examined responses can become reliable enough to run quickly. They are agentic only while they stay responsive to evidence and open to revision when conditions change.
